What is RVCR technology About?

In Layman Terms: -
RVCR Technology is a about an invention by Engineer D Ajee Kamath that leads to the Birth of New Age Machines for 21st century clean energy demands in Transportation, power generations Sector and Industry.

Machines are used for various functions ranging from simple applications like Pumping water, running a fan etc, to complicated functions like flying (Aeroplane), Transportation of goods (Trains, Ships) and extremely sophisticated actions like Space Missions etc.

All Machines use mechanism for doing its functions. Like Pumps and Fan use a rotor element to churn water/air to push it in the desired area. The rotor is an element of the fan that is driven to rotate, by an electric motor and similarly the rotor is an element of a pump driven by either electric motor or an Engine. The Rotor is mounted on a shaft which is another element is supported on bearings placed in a casing and all these elements are connected to each-other an arrangement. This arrangement of a chain of elements is referred as a Mechanism and it’s ‘Kinematics’.

What are the RVCR Technology applications?

RVCR is a new addition to the world of ‘Machine Mechanism’ and is a seed technology that various downstream applications across industry ranging from Transport, Power Generation and Utility Machines.

RVCR Mechanism is applicable to Machines used for Powering today’s world and are classified under ‘Fluid Handling Machines’ (FHM)as these machines interact with Fluids to perform.

How does RVCR Mechanism different from conventional Mechanism?

The conventional mechanisms used in ‘Fluid Handling Machines’ today are y of the following types

  • The Positive Displacement Type (e.g Piston Crank Mechanism used in Engines and Compressors)
    • A rotary Mechanism Wankel Engine is used in very limited applications.
    • Rotary Positive displacement is used in pumps and compressors.
  • Rotary or Dynamic Mechanism is mainly used in Turbines, Pumps etc

RVCR Mechanism overcomes the limitations of the conventional mechanisms and combines the efficiency advantage of Positive displacement and compactness of Rotary Mechanisms into one.

What are characteristic benefits and key features of RVCR Technology?

RVCR Technology leads to machines which are highly energy efficient, cheaper, compact and with lower carbon foot print.

One of the key features of RVCR Technology is that it enables a highly illusive feature, (which scientists, engineers and Technology Majors globally pursued for over a century) called the ‘VCR feature’ ‘Variable Compression Ratio’.

  • The VCR features Fuel-flexibility in Engines: - RVCR Engines can use either Fossil fuel or Green fuel and switch fuel during operations and thus allows high gains in efficiency and fuel flexibility in Engines. (Users of engines can switch from conventional fuel to green fuels, on demand, while in operations and even switch among various types of conventional fuel. For e.g. switch the car fuel from Diesel to LPG to Petrol etc while driving or to green fuels in Emission Control areas etc)

  • The conventional mechanisms used in ‘Fluid Handling Machines’ were invented/developed during late 19th century and through the 20th century and have been refined and improved over the past 100 years. What is RVCR Technology’s prospects in the scenario where battery and electric technologies are
being pushed world-wide ?

Battery and Electric automobile technology are a major force to counter emissions and pollution world-wide and has inflow of major investments however the space for RVCR Prime-Mover technology is still greater. The public perception on Battery technologies results primarily from its use in automotive sector, however Prime-Mover drive are not limited to automotive industry and only a minor segment of the entire Prime-Mover applications and market. The Battery technology viability is further subject to :

What is RVCR Technology’s prospects How do you see it against the solar push?
  • The low energy capturing efficiency and conversion to electric is a major limitation of solar as source of large demand. Along with the storage issues, cost of energy, capital investment required, weather dependency, maintenance cum disposal cost and space requirements are major limitations.
  • Human technologies can never reach near to natures photosynthesis for carbon capture and there is no better way of harnessing solar radiation other than letting it for plants, trees, flora & Fauna growth.
How do you see it in terms of fuel cell?
  • Fuel cells are a long way to go and would still need fuel. Hydrogen fuel cell would require distribution of hydrogen which has major safety issues.
  • The energy content in Hydrogen of Natural Gas is much lesser concentration than higher heavier molecules.

**RVCR can use Both Hydrogen and LPG in much rapid rate to produce high specific (clean) power at half the weight of conventional engine.

How do you see in terms of Hybrid Prime-Mover Technologies?
  • Some of the inherent limitations of hybrids with conventional I.C. Engines the weight of electric motor and battery for high power applications which nullify any efficiency gains. The battery charging still needs power which will have to come for some other source.

**RVCR Engines are compact and by its cylindrical geometry integrates into a motor rotor to make a highly compact unit which brings down the weight of the entire Prime-Mover.

What is GYATK’s proposition and offering?

GYATK introduces its globally patented RVCR Technology, a radical new approach in solving the limitations faced in usage renewable-energy and Green-fuels. RVCR is technological brake through in kinematics' which lead to birth of an entire ecosystem of new age machines which are highly efficient, fuel-flexible, emission smart and have a lower carbon foot-print.

We are currently involved in commercialising RVCR Technology Prime-Movers and have worked its technological systems requirement and the 1st Prototype RVCR Multi-Fuel Engine is at TRL-6 (Technological Readiness Level-6).

GYATK pursued its work in India till 2015, however for limitations in both Industry and Government in the country in handling ‘Green Field Techno-commercial Projects’ and since RVCR is based on a entirely novel Concept making further strenuous, GYATK shifted its base to UK where it has found success in terms of gaining Phase I funding through the SME Instrument of the Horizon 2020 Scheme. GYATK is now pursuing for Phase II funding for its Project to develop a Pilot demonstrator RVCR engine of a defined specification for select segments that would fetch Market traction and push its RVCR Technology Commercialization drive towards attaining next level of business scaleup.

What are the difficulties, bottlenecks, barriers faced?

RVCR is a ‘Greenfield Techno-Commercial Project based on new concept invention’ that has progressed to TRL-6. The technical milestone target is to accomplish TRL-6 objectives and reach TRL-7.

    Incremental innovations have abundant avenues and various players have streamlined their operations through programs, mechanisms involving government schemes and private investment firms for facilitation, training, implementation and streamlining it into Economic mainstream.   • The commercial enterprise and Market Dynamics

    The OEM’s and Multinational-Corporations (catering to numerous sectors like Land, Air and water& marine Transport, Renewable energy Power Generation sector, Heavy engineering, Material Handling & earthmoving, rigging, industrial equipment etc.) are on the top of the food chain of the Prime-Mover Industry. GYATK’s D&D business forms part of the complex industry web of its backward supply chain net. The D&D further has its own Backward Value Chain for its various Business process needs.

    This structure is a truly multi headed Hydra with no specific chain of command or window for RVCR to approach for unified assessment of its proposition. The difficulty is further compounded by rarity of RVCR innovation category.

    Despite these challenges GYATK succeeded in gaining traction with a OEM in India however experienced severe challenges in integrating its project into Licensee OEM’s facilities under a joint development project The OEM’s existing structure was tuned for mass production objectives of its products, whereas Engine D&D project execution is highly specialised competency very different form mass production engineering.

    The Lack of ‘Open Innovation Management Structure’ for integrating RVCR project into the industry is a serious Handicap.

  • Prime mover Funding & Industry specific barriers

    Prime-Movers products and Technologies have long shelf life and extended life-cycles (Extending up-to 3 and more decades in Maritime and Hydro-Power sectors). Prime-Mover technology and product development is highly resource and time intensive and even for established conventional technologies it takes anything from 5 years to a decade, however the self-life of the technology is multiple decades. The industry involves huge in-cycle investments in various projects pushed by technology leaders and institutional financiers, making the entire ecosystem highly conservative and with a massive momentum.
